Nick Reiner, accused of killing his father, Rob Reiner, and mother, lost his high-powered attorney and will now be represented by a public defender.

The wild card will be Reiner’s two siblings. They have not publicly spoken about the murders, but the little they have said suggests that they’re empathetic about their brother’s state. In a statement shortly after the killings, Jake and Romy Reiner asked that speculation about the case “be tempered with compassion and humanity.”

Nick Reiner arrived in court with a newly shaved head and appeared visibly emotional as his arraignment began in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Nick, 32, is facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner.
